What are Best Practices?

Best practices are sets of guidelines and procedures that are proven to lead to optimal efficiency and results. A best practice is the most efficient and effective course of action in a particular situation, and can be replicated or adapted at other factories or plants to provide similar results.

Best practices are important because they serve as a roadmap for a company on how to do business, help develop highly effective processes to streamline work, and provide the best way to deal with problems and issues that arise.

Create, document, retrieve, and review best practices in just four steps

Document

Document a best practice to share with other teams and for future reference by filling in the relevant fields.
  • Begin best practice mapping by selecting the appropriate pillar and steps
  • Then create descriptions for each step

Review

Review best practices and correctly mark them.
  • By default, the status of a freshly created best practice is “not reviewed”, but, after retrieving the document, review it and mark it as applicable, not applicable, or adopted

Create

Using our cloud-based software, click “ add new” to create a new best practice.
  • Note: For a practice to be truly considered best for your organization, it must be:
  • Unique – not common knowledge and not widely exercised
  • Repeatable – needs to be applicable in business processes that are the same or very similar across various factories and plants

 

Retrieve

If you’re performing a similar project, search for a best practice from a past project to review recommended guidelines and procedures.
  • Using the search box, type in a keyword phrase relevant to the project you’re currently working on, or will work on, to retrieve the right best practice
